Rasaq Malik Gbolahan considers the language and violence of war and exile in two searing poems including “As a Child I Knew Nothing About War.” In Lucy Zhang’s “Bare Branches,” the narrator and her childhood friend contemplate the ending of a family’s bloodline.  And Rijuta Pandey dwells inside the complexity of grief in “She Had Taught Me to Be Kind.”
